MEC Continues to Invest in its Future by Going from Renters to Owners

Successful businesses change and grow over time, and sometimes that means they need to take the next step in their journeys. For Metro Exhibit Corporation, the next step meant moving into a new space,1308 Marquette Drive, Romeoville, IL 60446, at the end of May.

MEC is a privately-held company based in the Chicago area. For more than 30 years, MEC has worked with businesses ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small start-ups, bringing their brands and messaging to life. MEC is a one-stop-shop providing turnkey services for the entire trade show program, from logistics planning to on-site supervision.

Aside from physically relocating its offices and equipment, MEC now owns the space in which it does business. Now MEC can use its facility in ways that best suit its needs and the needs of its clients without having to worry about landlord restrictions.

At 40,000 square feet, MEC’s new building is smaller than the previous space in Woodridge, IL, but Brian Phebus, the owner of MEC, says he’s not worried about working with less space. The company will have adequate room to construct and store its exhibits, but advances in telecommuting technology have made it feasible for companies to reduce office space without reducing staff.

“Most of our sales team works from home, or they’re traveling,” said Phebus, “so we don’t  need an office and a desk for every employee.”

The move hasn’t disrupted MEC’s work at all, according to Phebus. On the contrary, owning the building in which the company operates will enhance its ability to provide high-quality trade show solutions to clients ranging from small start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.
