Messe Berlin: Guest events business is expanding and becoming more international

The total attendance exceeded 260,000 last year at Messe Berlin’s 38 guest events held at the Berlin ExpoCenter City. The number of new events with a growing international appeal also is on the rise. Two of the events making their debuts in 2012 were the European Attraction Show and Asia Apparel Expo – Berlin.

More than 260,000 attended 38 events held at Messe Berlin last year.

And this year, for the first time, the Berlin Exhibition Grounds will be the venue for World Publishing Expo Oct. 7-9, an exhibition staged annually by the association representing the world’s newspaper publishers. Following the great success of the first international biogas tradeshow last year, the exhibition area of the BioGasWorld 2013 scheduled April 23-25 will be considerably increased in size.

While its portfolio of tradeshows is growing, so are Messe Berlin’s long-term ties to event organizers.

“In addition to an expanding portfolio, another trend is becoming very evident: a growing number of organizers of guest events are choosing to establish more lasting links with the tradeshow venue,” said Dr. Detlef Meyer zu Heringdorf, guest events director, Messe Berlin. “This is not only an indication of the appeal of Germany’s capital city but also of the wide-ranging expertise offered by our staff and the confidence Messe Berlin engenders. Our guest-events business is growing and becoming increasingly international at the Berlin ExpoCenter City and our new exhibition venue, Berlin ExpoCenter Airport.”

The world’s largest coil-winding tradeshow, Coil Winding & Electrical Manufacturing Exhibition and Conference Berlin (CWIEME), is one example of the more lasting links that are being forged with Berlin and its tradeshow facilities. The tradeshow for electromagnetic coils, electric motors, transformer manufacturing, rewinding equipment and electrical insulation will continue to be held at Berlin ExpoCenter City for the next five years and has undergone expansion by some 1,100 percent in recent years.

A similar agreement recently was signed by officials for the i2i Events Group – London and Messe Berlin, thereby continuing a collaboration that has been growing successfully for the past 17 years.

“Messe Berlin is the world´s number one venue in terms of international participation,” said Mark Shashoua, CEO, i2i Events Group. “It is the ideal venue for the CWIEME and the perfect business platform for everyone attending the event.”

The facility has been available to provide new presentation opportunities for organizers of guest events since September. The site is directly adjacent to the future major airport BER and made a successful start with the staging of the International Aerospace Exhibition ILA 2012. Augmenting the ExpoCenter City site at the Exhibition Grounds at Berlin’s radio tower, the Funkturm, it comprises three permanent halls covering more than 65,000 square feet with the ability to increase the display area to more than 181,000 square feet by the inclusion of temporary halls. It hosted the highly successful fashion fair PANORAMA in January.
