Nonprofit announces groundbreaking of hotel and convention center in Paterson

Medical Missions for Children, a global telemedicine and teaching network, announced an October groundbreaking date on a $100 million initiative that will bring a new hotel and convention center to Paterson, New Jersey.

The 14-story, 145-room hotel is expected to be open for business in 2016, the Paterson Press reports. Along with the hotel and convention center, a 105,000-square-foot office building constructed across from the hotel would push the total value of the entire project to $150 million.

Built on land owned by St. Joseph’s Medical Center and managed by GF Management, the hotel would be part of the Hilton Doubletree chain. There is currently only one other hotel in Paterson, the Travelodge.

The city planning board unanimously approved the Medical Missions’ hotel application at City Hall Aug. 4. A major vote was approved from the project in December when the New Jersey Economic Development Authority approved $105.5 million in tax credits for the project.
