PCMA Education Foundation announces fall scholarship winners

The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Education Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of 18 faculty and student scholarships. Sixteen of these scholarships will provide students and faculty with the opportunity to attend the 2010 PCMA Annual Meeting, Jan. 10-13 in Dallas.


“We are proud that in spite of the fact that everyone’s been struggling with the economy we have not lessened our pace in terms of funding scholarships,” said Michael L. Payne, PCMA Education Foundation Chair. “Making it easier for faculty and student members to participate in the Annual Meeting will prove an investment in the future of our industry.”

2010 PCMA Annual Meeting Faculty Scholarship
Eleven meetings industry faculty members have been selected to receive the 2010 PCMA Annual Meeting Faculty Scholarship. The scholarships present a unique opportunity for deserving faculty members to build industry connections and bring real-world experience back to their classrooms and students. The award includes complimentary roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations for four nights, and registration for the 54th Annual Meeting.

The recipients include Betsy Barrett, Ph.D., Kansas State University; Deborah Breiter, Ph.D., University of Central Florida, Rosen College of Hospitality Management; Suzan K. Bunn, CMP, CHSP, University of Central Florida, Rosen College of Hospitality Management; Kathie J. Coffin-Sulis, Holland College; Joy P. Dickerson, Widener University; George G. Fenich, Ph.D., East Carolina University; Joe Goldblatt, CSEP, Ed.D, Queen Margaret University; William R. Host, CMP, Roosevelt University; Kelly V. Phelan, Ph.D., Texas Tech University; Swathi Ravichandran, MBA, Ph.D., Kent State University; Kimberly S. Severt, University of Central Florida, Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

The Chairman’s Scholarship
The Foundation awarded The Chairman’s Scholarship to Danielle Ciarlante, Penn State University and Michael McClatchy, University of Central Florida, Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

The Chairman’s Scholarship recognizes exceptional student members and provides them with an opportunity to meet with 2009 PCMA Chairman of the Board, John Folks and 2009 Chair of the Foundation Board of Trustees, Michael L. Payne. The student recipients are also awarded complimentary airfare, registration, and hotel accommodations for the Annual Meeting. The scholarship is sponsored by NYC & Company.

Annual Meeting Scholarship
Winners of this year’s Annual Meeting Scholarship, underwritten by the PCMA Education Foundation, are Lindsey Boyer, Penn State University; Tiffany Carter, Kansas State University; and Rachel McDuffie, University of South Carolina. Students will have the opportunity to shadow members of PCMA’s Meetings and Events Team on-site. Winners receive complimentary airfare, hotel accommodations, and registration for the Annual Meeting.

PCMA Student Chapter of the Year Award
The winners of the PCMA Student Chapter of the Year Award are the University of Central Florida, Rosen College of Hospitality Management and Eastern Illinois University.  Each chapter receives $500 from the Foundation to fund chapter projects, events and activities.

In addition to scholarships awarded by the Foundation, The Exhibition Services and Contractor’s Association (ESCA) generously provided scholarships for two PCMA student members to attend the Annual Meeting.  Lyndsay Coad, Kansas State University and Janet Renea Anderson, University of Central Florida, Rosen College of Hospitality Management  are this year’s recipients. The scholarship includes complimentary registration, housing and airfare.
