The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) has announced that the PCMA Board of Directors has elected a member to fill the one-year Board seat vacancy for 2012.
Martin (Marty) D. Balogh, director of meetings and travel for the American Bar Association (ABA), will fill the seat for the year. The seat was vacated by Chris Wehking, who began his term as secretary-treasurer of the PCMA Board of Directors on January 12, 2012.
A 30-year employee of the ABA, Balogh has held numerous positions in the Meetings and Travel Department. Balogh and his staff manage the association’s annual meeting of 16,000 attendees and a midyear meeting with over 4,000 attendees, as well as negotiate contracts for over 300 additional meetings a year.
In addition, Balogh oversees an in-house travel agency for both member and staff travel. He and his staff are responsible for an in-house conference center, which books more than 5,000 meetings a year in 20 meeting rooms at the association’s headquarters in Chicago and their D.C. office. The ABA is the largest professional association in the world with over 400,000 members.
Balogh has been a member of PCMA since 2001 and has been actively involved in the organization for several years. He was a member of the 2005 and 2006 Annual Meeting Program Committees and served on the PCMA Education Foundation Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2011. Balogh earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois.
