Can you describe a recent double deck extrusion-based exhibit that you designed for a client?
Our most recent project was a 20-by-20 double deck rental for our New Orleans distributor, Synergy, whose client, Louisiana Seafood, was exhibiting at NRA at McCormick Place in Chicago. The double deck was used in conjunction with other exhibit components in a 20-by-50 booth. The lower portion of the deck was used for cooking and storage, and the upper level was used as a lounge area. The double deck and wall structures were constructed with ClassicMODUL aluminum extrusion components. The custom counter was constructed with Classic Exhibits Euro LT laminated panels. The exhibit also included laminated infill panels and direct to Sintra graphic panels.
How did extrusions play a role in meeting the design specs of the client?
The ClassicMODUL extrusion construction allows us to connect the additional wall structures for graphics and the storage room directly to the deck. This also provided solid walls to mount large monitors in their demo area. The deck is one piece of a much larger extrusion system, MODUL, which makes designing much easier since there are over 200 extrusion profiles and hundreds of accessories.
What were the major challenges that came with designing this exhibit?
Oddly enough, space was the major challenge. We produced a custom counter unit for a cooking area. Everything had to fit just right, and it had to be designed to accommodate a built-in sink and refrigerator. Double deck designs allow for more space, but that space gets gobbled up fast.
What custom elements were you able to include in the design by using the adaptability of extrusions?
There were a series of custom wall structures that connected directly to the deck structure for added stability. This would have been much harder if the system wasn’t designed to accommodate MODUL extrusion locks.
