The 2013 Americas Meetings & Events Exhibition (AIBTM) scheduled in Chicago in June will have a new director.
Reed Travel Exhibitions recently announced the appointment of Michael J. Lyons as the new exhibition director for AIBTM. Lyons, a well-known and respected figure in the meetings and events community for more than 30 years, will lead AIBTM’s efforts to enhance its position as the premier global exhibition for the U.S. meetings, events, incentive and business travel industry.
“We are delighted to welcome Mike to the Reed Travel Exhibitions family,” said Craig Moyes, portfolio director, Meetings & Events Portfolio. “His diverse experience, background and connections will complement the accomplished team we have in place and we expect great results as we take AIBTM to the next level.”
Lyons brings a wealth of experience to his new position. His background includes senior level positions with some of the hospitality industry’s best-known names, including Global Events Partners, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Rosenbluth Travel (now American Express).
He has served on the boards of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Association of Destination Management Executives. Lyons is involved in numerous hospitality industry organizations, such as MPI and PCMA, and has been honored by the Philadelphia Chapter of MPI as its “supplier of the year.” He is a former member of the advisory board of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. and is an adjunct professor at Temple University in its event management executive leadership program.
