The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) is pleased to announce that Jacqueline Russo has been selected as the 2010 Legend of the Industry for this year’s IAEE Robert L. Krakoff Future Leaders Institute to be held Aug. 6-8 at the JW Marriott Hill Country in San Antonio, Texas. IAEE and official sponsor, Champion Exposition Services, will provide career development for industry professionals who were selected by the Future Leaders Committee as up-and-comers based on their application and extensive review.
Each year, IAEE selects a Legend of the Industry whose contributions, innovation and leadership have been truly unique and remarkable. An informal setting then allows each Institute participant one-on-one time with this industry leader.
“As our industry changes and grows, helping great leaders emerge is key to both the success of IAEE and the member businesses we represent,” says Russo. “Being chosen as the Legend of the Industry is a tremendous honor, and I look forward to meeting with and mentoring those individuals whose efforts will enhance exhibitions and events for many years to come.”
Russo is vice president of Kuehne & Nagel Inc., one of the world’s leading logistics companies. She oversees the direction of the exhibition/special event division. Russo has been in the international exhibition industry for over 20 years, having served as IAEE chair in 2003. She currently serves on the IAEE Audit Committee, International Special Interest Group and the Senior Executives Programming Task Force as vice chair. Additionally, Russo serves on the board of the Exhibition Industry Foundation (EIF) and chairs the Helen Brett Scholarship Committee. She speaks frequently at industry events and is an active member in other industry associations.
The participants selected for the 2010 Institute are judged on the following criteria:
- Evidence of at least three years of full-time experience in the exhibitions and events industry
- A personal commitment to, and passion for, the exhibitions and events industry
- An indication of their willingness and ability to become a thought leader and motivator of other
- A commitment to remain actively involved in the Institute
- Insight into how they view the future of the exhibitions and events industry and how they propose to influence that future
This year’s facilitator, Erick Burton, CSP, is frequently described as powerful, positive and practical. As president of the Burton Leadership Center, he has partnered with hundreds of corporations and associations as a professional speaker, facilitator, executive coach and author. Burton is one of a few speakers worldwide with the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation. He is the founder of the Burton Leadership Center, a 28-acre facility near Kansas City, Mo., which features a leadership course designed to develop organizational and personal leadership. Since 1996, Burton has spoken in 48 states and four countries outside of the United States.
Institute alumni will also participate in a program of events designed to develop leadership skills and broaden industry knowledge, create a close support network among participants and enhance requisite motivational and communications skills. Graduates of the 2010 Institute will be recognized at Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition to be held Dec. 7-9 in New Orleans, La.
