Partnering with Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB), the official promotion agency for the Malaysian state, will host a joint business matchmaking mission from Nov. 7-8 in Shanghai, China.
“There has been increasing interest from China based on our previous sales missions, and we believe that through this collaboration with SCCI, we can present more opportunities for trade of products and services in Sarawak and in turn promote Sarawak as an ideal venue for business events,” said Mike Cannon, managing director, SCB. “We are leveraging on SCCI’s database to network and bring more conventions to Sarawak. The value of business events goes beyond economics and contributes to additional education, research, export trade and corporate social responsibility (CSR) opportunities and much more.”
Held at The Hongta Hotel in Shanghai, the mission has strong support from Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE); the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA); Industrial and Corporate Bank of China; Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE); Consulate General of The People’s Republic of China in Kuching; and Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA), together with SCB and SCCI.
“We are inviting about 70 potential buyers with interest of investments related to SCORE, in the areas of aluminium, glass, steel, tourism and more,” said YBhg Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim Tun Abang Haji Openg, president and chairman, National and Regional Relations Committee, SCCI. “Through this mission, we hope that we can promote an easier channel of communication with the government and other business chambers and organizations based in Sarawak to interested China counterparts.”
The SCB-SCCI joint business matchmaking mission is organized to coincide with the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Annual Congress that will be held in Shanghai on Nov. 2-6. Sarawak won the right to host the ICCA Annual Congress in 2016.
