SDCC Corp. honors in-house food and beverage provider

Honoring a successful partnership spanning nearly 20 years, the San Diego Convention Center Corp., the manager of San Diego Convention Center, awarded Centerplate, its in-house food and beverage provider since 1994, the Flame of Friendship award.

Showing appreciation for individuals or organizations that were instrumental in the success of the San Diego Convention Center, the award was presented to Centerplate’s President and CEO Des Hague by the Corporation’s President and CEO Carol Wallace and Board Chair Phil Blair during a luncheon at the University Club in San Diego on June 18.

“Without doubt, Centerplate has been a truly outstanding partner. Their talented team provides our clients with extraordinary food and beverage experiences that distinguish our facility from our competition,” said Wallace.

Centerplate is an event hospitality partner to many of North America’s sports stadiums, entertainment venues and convention centers.

“It was my distinct pleasure to accept the Flame of Friendship Award,” said Hague. “It is a tremendous honor, and Centerplate is extremely proud of the relationship we share with the San Diego Convention Center Corp.”

The award is a replica of the Flame of Friendship, the 20-feet-tall stainless-steel abstract sculpture crafted by artist Leonardo Nierman. The sculpture, which is located on the bayside terrace of the convention center, was presented as a symbol of goodwill and friendship from the Mexican Consul General and represents the long-standing partnership between San Diego and its neighboring city, Tijuana, Mexico.
