Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.
Las Vegas-based Elements created a 26-member team to walk in honor of President Tim Provo to raise funds at this year’s Las Vegas Light the Night event. The event took place at the Kellogg Zaher Park on Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Provo passed away after a battle with leukemia on September 28, 2010. He was surrounded by his family.
In a friendly competition to raise the most funds, Elements was up against powerhouse companies like MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.
At 3 p.m. on October 15, the following comment was posted on the Elements Facebook site.
Elements sends out a big congratulations to the team. They just passed the $15k mark in their fundraising efforts for Light The Night in honor of Tim – a truly monumental amount. Tim would be so proud of them. With just two hours left, it’s impossible to guess where their total will be!
The team originally had a goal to raise $5,000 in memory of Tim. By the time the fundraiser was finished, the Elements Team had exceeded that goal by 464 percent, bringing their grand total up to $23,198. In the finalhours, after the Facebook post, the Elements Team received more than $8,000 in additional donations.
This incredible amount will be donated to the LLS, in Tim’s honor, to help fund lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatment for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants.
In 2009, LLS researchers were conducting more than 90 clinical trials, a critical step in the development of new treatments and cures that will help patients live better, longer lives. These new therapies kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue and provide drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.
