Trotter Convention Center fees rise

Approving a request by Frank Goodman, director, James M. Trotter Convention Center, the Columbus, Miss., city council agreed to increase rates at the facility.

Goodman requested the new fees following the start of a $2.3 million renovation on the facility, including new sound and lighting systems, mill work, new flooring and tiling, lighting improvements, a new front wall and a new air-conditioning unit and roofing.

The fee for events where tickets are sold will cost $1,200 for the first day and $600 for each day thereafter. Rental fees for private functions such as weddings will now cost $1,000 per day and $500 for each succeeding day.

Increases also apply to the lower level meeting room, which can be split into three separate spaces. For one of those spaces, the cost will be $300 per day. Rental fees for two spaces are $500 then $250 for each succeeding day. For the whole lower level, those amounts are $700 and $350, respectively. The rental fee for the downstairs kitchen is now $100 a day.

Increased fee rates are not applicable to events already booked in 2015.

The last rental fee increase at the Trotter Center was approved in 2007.
