“Exhibitions play a vital role in today’s business world,” said Ettore Riello, chairman, Italian Exhibition and Trade Fair Association. “It is therefore of fundamental importance that customers have access to reliable exhibition data.”

Of 2,181 exhibitions from 22 European countries, France held the most events totaling 499 while Moldavia and Slovenia reported one event each in 2013.

At these events, organized by 625 organizers, a total of 601,323 exhibitors, 60.5 million visitors and 22.1 million square meters of rented space were registered.

Thirty-five percent of the exhibitions were addressed to trade visitors, 29 percent to public visitors and 36 percent to both target groups.

UFI estimates that the audited events represented almost half of the European exhibition market in 2013 in terms of net space rented.

Almost 4 percent of all events had more than one industry sector mentioned. Topping the list were events in the leisure, hobby and entertainment sector with 270 events using 2.3 million square meters in rented exhibit space. Events in agriculture and construction also exceeded 2 million square meters in space with engineering, fashion, hospitality and furniture close behind at over 1 million square meters.
