Destination El Paso has named Veronica Castro executive director of Visit El Paso, following more than 20 years with the organization.
Castro most recently served as director of tourism development and strategic alliances, a role she held for nine years.
In her new position, she will oversee the Visit El Paso team and lead efforts tied to tourism development, destination marketing, strategic partnerships, meetings, sports, leisure travel, and group business.
Castro brings two decades of destination experience
During her tenure with Destination El Paso, Castro has held leadership roles across tourism development, visitor services, international market development, and strategic partnerships.
She has also helped expand El Paso’s tourism presence in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Her work included relationships with travel trade professionals, media, tour operators, and regional partners.
“Veronica has dedicated her career to Destination El Paso and to sharing the very best of our community with the world,” said Brooke Underwood, president and chief executive officer of Destination El Paso. “Her knowledge of this organization, our tourism industry and, most importantly, our community is invaluable.”
Castro holds the Texas Destination Marketer and Certified Tourism Executive designations.
Her local recognition includes the City of El Paso proclaiming May 16 as Veronica Castro Day. She was also named among the inaugural honorees of The Concilio’s Texas Latino Legacy Awards.
In recognition of her appointment, El Paso’s Star on the Mountain will be illuminated in Visit El Paso colors on Aug. 21.
