Canadian news and media outlets, as well as travel agents, have been briefed on the latest destination updates for visitor travel to Greater Phoenix over the winter season.
Organizing area tourism officials, Visit Phoenix kicked off a two-week outreach mission to Canada in October. Representatives returned after visiting Vancouver and Victoria while the focus was on Toronto in early October. More than 728,000 Canadians visited Arizona in 2012, according to the Arizona Office of Tourism.
“British Columbia and the Toronto area are economic drivers for our region,” said Melissa Gogel, vice president of marketing, communications and tourism, Visit Phoenix. “The goal is to increase the exposure of the Visit Phoenix brand in two of our most important markets and to do it at a time when visitors are planning now to escape the cold weather for sunny days and star-studded nights.”
Visit Phoenix is blitzing its Canadian neighbors in preparation for a busy winter season. As the thermometer dips in the northern latitudes, the warmth and vibrancy of the Sonoran Desert resonates well in Canada.
The delegation of media and sales professionals from Phoenix met with more than 100 travel professionals and media in British Columbia and participated in the Discover America program in Toronto.
