Visit San Antonio Promotes Michelle Moon to Director of Destination Services

Visit San Antonio has promoted Michelle Moon, CPCE, CTA to director of destination services. Moon will lead Visit San Antonio’s destination services team in managing large meeting groups and connecting local partners with convention meeting planners looking to grow attendance, create authentic experiences and maximize their time in San Antonio. She begins her new role Sept. 1.

Moon joined Visit San Antonio in 2016 as associate director of destination services and represented Visit San Antonio as a member of the local organizing committee for the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four.

“As director of destination services, Michelle will bring incredible dedication and creativity to our San Antonio meetings clients,” says Visit San Antonio President & CEO Casandra Matej. “She exemplifies her passion for this city through her work and community involvement and will be an incredible leader for our destination services team.”

A San Antonio native, Moon has more than 17 years of experience in the meetings and events industry, having started her career in fundraising and event management for large museums in Oklahoma City, Tampa and Dallas. In 2006, Moon returned to San Antonio and served as the director of special events for the revered Witte Museum, growing facility sales threefold. She went on to help open the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, managing facility sales and service teams for the new state-of-the-art performing arts center.

Moon serves on the boards of the Alamo Chapter of the National Association for Catering and Events, the Amniotic Fluid Embolism Foundation, the Hollywood Park Community Association and chairs the planning committee for the annual Tango of the Vines wine and food festival. In 2017, Moon received the distinguished honor of being named one of the San Antonio Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 recipients.

The position became available following the recent announcement by Brenda Square, current director of destination services, to retire as of Aug. 31 following a brilliant career of more than 35 years in the hospitality and tourism industry including 17 years with Visit San Antonio (previously the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau).

Visit San Antonio is a 501(c)6, and serves as the sales and marketing arm of San Antonio as a leading leisure and meetings destination. San Antonio welcomes 20.9 million overnight visitors annually. Hospitality is one of the top five industries in the city, contributing $13.6 billion into the local economy and employing more than 130,000. For more info, visit VisitSanAntonio.com.
