VisitPittsburgh has recently elected a new chairman. In this role, the new chairman will oversee the non-profit organization as it fulfills its mission.
William “Bill” T. Cagney will work to bring conventions, tradeshows and leisure travelers to the Pittsburgh region.
“We are delighted by the dedication and leadership that Bill Cagney brings to VisitPittsburgh as board chairman,” said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPittsburgh. “Bill’s extensive experience in business and his involvement in the community will serve the organization well.”
Prior to being elected as board chairman, Cagney has served on the VisitPittsburgh board of directors since 2008, and was a member of the Executive Committee since 2009.
“This is such an incredibly exciting time for Pittsburgh, and I am absolutely thrilled to be playing a leadership role for this organization’s important mission,” said Cagney. “I am privileged to have a Board comprised of the best executive leadership for advancing the tourism and hospitality industry in the Pittsburgh region.”
In his capacity as business manager and financial secretary of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Cagney is responsible for administration, finances, organizing, political action and negotiations covering over 2,000 members and their families. As a 35-year member, he founded and chairs the Local’s Training Fund, Building Fund and 401(k) Plan, and he is chairman of the Pittsburgh Building Owner’s Health and Welfare Fund.
Cagney also serves in many capacities at the International Union, including treasurer of the International’s General Pension Plan and president of the Pennsylvania State Council of Operating Engineers.
Cagney is a member of the City of Pittsburgh’s Green Government Task Force, The Allegheny County Green Action Committee and UPMC Health Insurance Advisors Board. He also serves on the board of directors at Green Innovations, Three River’s Labor Management Committee and the Community College of Allegheny County.
Cagney replaced outgoing board chairman, Doris Carson Williams, president of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania, who will continue to serve on VisitPittsburgh’s executive committee as immediate past chairman.
