VisitPittsburgh, the official tourism promotion agency for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, has hired its first executive director of digital marketing.
In this newly created role, David J. Atkins will be responsible for VisitPittsburgh’s interactive marketing strategies, including overseeing the Web site – visitpittsburgh.com – as well as the organization’s overall social media initiatives.
For the past 10 years, Atkins has been the owner of a Pittsburgh-based web design firm. As an entrepreneur, he leveraged his intellect, experience and technical savvy to successfully serve a diverse client base.
As a small business owner, Atkins was affiliated with the African-American Chamber of Commerce, Allegheny County Executive Committee for IT and Telecommunications, member of the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation and served on the board of directors for the Center for Creative Play.
“David brings a multitude of talent and expertise to the position,” said Joe McGrath, president and CEO of VisitPittsburgh. “His creativity, strategic marketing and writing skills, and his computer acumen will be a great benefit to VisitPittsburgh.”
Atkins is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, with a BA in Creative Writing, Professional Writing and Visual Design. He is also a graduate of Leadership Development Initiative.
