Conferon founder honored in surprise ceremony

Honored with a special founder’s position on the Experient Wall of Recognition, the founder of Conferon, now Experient Inc, was surprised in a ceremony in Twinsburg, Ohio, May 20, according to company officials.

Experient and Maritz Travel Co. upper-level executives presented a custom plaque to Bruce W. Harris. In part, the plaque states, “The ethical and professional standards that he fostered and upheld in the hospitality industry are among Bruce’s most important contributions. He was inducted into the Convention Industry Council’s Hall of Leaders in 2004 and was recognized … by Meeting News as one of the 25 Most Influential People in the Meetings Industry” each year it was published.

“I am proud to call Bruce our founder, a mentor, a coach and, most importantly, my friend,” said Michael Guerriero, president of the event management division, Experient. “His vision has created opportunities for everyone here and many companies. His vision lives on in Experient and in the people he has influenced.”

As founder of Conferon in 1970, Harris is credited with defining the meeting planning profession and creating a new industry.

“I can’t think of anything in my life, on the work-side, that has been more enjoyable than being part of this company,” said Harris.

Experient Inc, a Maritz Travel Co., provides registration, housing, event planning and management, site sourcing/contract negotiation and lead retrieval services for association, tradeshow and government clients.
