Exhibitors fill show floor to capacity at IMS2013

More than 880 booths from 580 exhibitors representing 21 countries filled the show floor to capacity in Seattle during the 2013 International Microwave Symposium (IMS2013), the annual conference and exhibition of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S).

“Seattle’s reputation as an innovative technology city served as a draw for RF (radio frequency) industry professionals from around the world,” said Tom Raschko, general chair, IMS2013 symposium.

To promote the advancement of microwave theory and its applications, MTT-S held the annual conference at the Washington State Convention Center from June 2-7. The conference featured 78 first-time exhibitors and 16 universities along with more than 7,500 microwave and RF designers, researchers and developers representing 54 countries.

“The sold-out show floor, strong showing from new exhibitors and high level of participation for the technical programs and workshops is a testament to both the enthusiasm for the location and the exciting developments happening in the microwave industry,” added Raschko.

Along with a three-day exhibition and 160 technical sessions, IMS2013 included Wireless Industry Day, which showcased emerging wireless technologies in the Pacific Northwest. The event highlighted quickly evolving standards across wireless and new machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. IMS2013 also included a technical program with more than 900 paper submissions from over 30 countries.

On the exhibition floor, the MicroApps Theater drew crowds for 20-minute microwave application seminars by IMS exhibitors on topics ranging from load pull simulation to integrated electro-thermal design. Two keynotes on “Modern RF Measurements and How They Drive Spectrum Analyzer Digital IF Processor Design” and “Æthereal Waves Make History: The Four Scientists Who Saved James Clerk Maxwell’s Theories,” complemented the 59 shorter technical presentations.

IMS2014 will be held June 1-6, 2014, in Tampa Bay, Fla. with the theme of “Powering the Waves.”
