Second Euroshop // JAPAN SHOP Design Award competition announced

Messe Düsseldorf, the organizer of EuroShop, and Nihon Keizai Shimbun will jointly organize the EuroShop // JAPAN SHOP Shop Design Award contest under the auspices of the German Embassy Tokyo, the Japanese Consulate General Düsseldorf and the EHI Retail Institute, the event’s conceptual sponsor.

This competition will honor outstanding Japanese store designs, which make reference to the country’s traditions and reflect the essence of all things Japanese. Numerous Japanese associations from the design sector will support the project.

An international jury headed by Musashino Art University Professor Hiroshi Kashiwagi and curator of the exhibition “Wa – the Spirit of Harmony” at the red dot design Museum in 2009 will select the winners in the categories of General Competition (Realized Projects) and Design Ideas.

The winners will present their designs early next year at EuroShop, an international trade fair for retail to be held Feb. 16-20, 2014, in Düsseldorf, Germany and at JAPAN SHOP to take place Mar. 4-7, 2014, in Tokyo. Exhibitors at EuroShop next year will showcase their latest products and technologies on over 2 million square feet of gross exhibit space.

When organized for the first time at EuroShop 2011, the design competition had received 174 entries for the Realized Projects category and 57 for the category Design Ideas and Proposals.

Entries for this year’s competition can be submitted from July 1 through August 31 at www.messe-dus.co.jp.

EuroShop consists of four independent but connected exhibit segments: EuroConcept, which includes shopfitting, store design, lighting, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment; EuroSales, which includes visual merchandising, sales promotion and POS marketing; EuroCIS, which includes IT and security technology; and EuroExpo, which includes stand construction, design and special events.
