Atlantic City International Airport

Airport code: ACY

Date Opened: Atlantic City International Airport opened in 1942 as a Naval Air Station. The FAA took over the facility in 1958, and USAir began to service the airport in 1978.

Size: The airport sprawls across 5,000 acres. It has two runways and one easy-to-navigate terminal. There are 10 gates in the terminal, many of which are available for charter use.

Transportation: Curbside taxi service is available, and the Atlantic Jitney Association provides shuttle service. Passengers can find shuttle service in the area just outside of baggage claim. Travelers trying to reach a rail station can take a shuttle bus to the Egg Harbor City rail station, which provides service to the Atlantic City Line.

Fun Facts: When the airport was established as a Naval Air Station, its purpose was to train bomber, torpedo and fighter squadrons. A year later, it narrowed its focus strictly to fighter squadrons.

When the Navy left the airport in 1958, the New Jersey Air National guard took over the naval station. The 117th Fighter Wing has been headquartered at the Atlantic City International Airport ever since.
