Winning the bid to privately manage and operate the Pennsylvania Convention Center in June, SMG is taking on its duties later than planned.
“SMG will take over management sometime in the fall but not by Oct. 1 as planned,” said Deirdre Hopkins, strategic communications manager, Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority.
Slowing down the management transition is the Pennsylvania Governor’s Budget Office, which is questioning the plans in place.
It is expected that SMG will be managing the convention center by the end of October. SMG has prepared by meeting with previous management staff for potential hires.
The board of directors of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority selected SMG to manage the convention center over Global Spectrum in June. It is hoped that SMG will bring in more tradeshows and conferences.
