Tournament becomes nonprofit charity

The Tournament of Hope charity golf event announced it recently earned its 501(c)3 nonprofit status, which allows for all sponsorships and registration fees to be tax deductible among other benefits. The tournament benefits individuals in the Orlando tradeshow industry faced with imposing high costs due to a life-changing illness. The tournament takes place Aug. 19 at the Champions Gate Golf Course in Orlando.

Individual golfers can participate for $85 with a foursome at $340 or corporate foursome at $500. Players who register prior to Aug. 1 will receive a 5 percent discount. Sponsorships begin at $150.

Contests include the putting contest, beginning at 7 a.m., longest drive closest to the pin, hole-in-one and beat the pro as well as raffles. A silent auction also will be available. Donations are currently being accepted by sending email to Christina@thetournamentofhope.com or by calling (321) 689-1400.

The Tournament of Hope was created in 2008 when a local tradeshow family was stricken by illness. Fellow professionals came together with support that eased some of the burden. The event was founded in memory of Cleo Spoon who passed away on Sept. 2, 2008.
