Tokyo has secured six international conferences scheduled between 2027 and 2029, adding roughly 19,000 delegates to the city’s future business-events pipeline.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) confirmed the events across technology, engineering, healthcare, and life sciences. About 7,000 of the expected delegates will come from overseas.
The largest of the six is SIGGRAPH Asia 2027, scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at Tokyo International Forum. Organizers expect about 10,000 delegates, including 2,400 international attendees.
Tokyo International Forum will also host the International Gynecologic Cancer Society Annual Global Meeting Nov. 4-6, 2027. That event is expected to draw about 4,000 delegates, including 1,500 from overseas.
Six wins span multiple sectors
The other confirmed conferences include the Asian Oncology Nursing Society and International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care meeting, set for Aug. 5-7, 2027, at Ariake Central Tower Hall & Conference. Organizers expect about 1,050 delegates, including 350 international attendees.
In 2028, the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems will meet Sept. 12-15 at TAKANAWA GATEWAY Convention Center. The event is expected to bring about 1,000 delegates, including 700 from overseas.
Two more meetings are scheduled for 2029. The 51st International Conference on Software Engineering will take place April 22-28 at Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba and is expected to attract about 2,000 delegates. Of those, roughly 1,500 are expected to come from overseas.
The Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand will meet Sept. 1-4 at Keio Plaza Hotel. Organizers expect about 1,100 delegates, including 600 international attendees.
Tokyo builds on international meetings ranking
The six conference wins split evenly between technology and engineering, and healthcare and life sciences.
That mix aligns with areas where Tokyo already has a strong meetings presence. According to TCVB, Tokyo ranked 10th globally and third in the Asia-Pacific region in the International Congress and Convention Association’s 2025 city rankings. The city hosted 119 eligible conferences that year.
Tokyo also ranked second globally in the technology category in the 2025 rankings, according to TCVB.
Hironobu Fujimura, senior director of TCVB’s Business Events Team, says the bureau hopes the conferences will support academic and technical exchange while creating longer-term value for the city and participating industries.
The wins add several years of future international meeting business across multiple Tokyo venues and reinforce the city’s role in both technology-focused and healthcare-related events.
