Experienced in overseeing the largest public works project in Nevada history, a 16-year director with the Clark County Department of Aviation will assist the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau (LVCVA) in the development of a project on a comparable scale, the proposed $2.5 billion Las Vegas Global Business District.
The district will eclipse the $2.4 billion investment into Terminal 3 (T3) at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, where during his tenure as director of aviation, Randall H. Walker oversaw development of the project.
“Randy played a key role developing Las Vegas into a thriving domestic and international destination,” said Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO, LVCVA.
As a consultant approved by LVCVA at its monthly Board of Directors’ meeting, Walker will help create criteria for selecting designers, project managers and laborers as well as oversee them. Advising on operations standards for designers, construction bids and contracts, and work plans, he will also attend regular construction meetings and take part in site walks. Earning $72,000 a year for these duties, Walker’s agreement with LVCVA could be extended after the first year if both parties agree.
To be completed over 10 years and in phases with the LVCVA’s goal of creating an international business destination, the Las Vegas Global Business District would include an upgraded Las Vegas Convention Center, a grand concourse connector with more lobby space, advanced technology, a complete makeover of surrounding areas and more. To get started on the first phase of the project, which includes demolition of nearby properties to gain more land for the district, the LVCVA board approved $150 million.
Prior to retiring in June, Walker also planned and executed other improvements at or near McCarran, including the D Concourse, Airport Connector Tunnel, McCarran Rent-A-Car Center and more.
The owner and operator of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau is a Clark County, Nev. government agency.
